The Artist

I am an artist. For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to be an artist and today here you are, looking at my website. Welcome!

A little about me: I have a background in costume design and textiles but after graduating with my degree in 2008 I decided to return to what I loved best- fine art. I spent most of my childhood drawing and painting and I’m lucky enough now to forge a career out of my passion. I love art. Quite simply it is the most important thing in the world. As William Morris said,

History has remembered the kings and warriors, because they destroyed; art has remembered the people, because they created.

However, I don’t believe my work will cure the sick or feed the hungry. I’m not interested in abstract concepts or creating narrative and overturning preconceptions with my work: I create art purely for the joy of it. I work in a variety of mediums because I find it impossible to restrict myself to one. I’m most comfortable painting and drawing in inks and gouache, but I look forward to trying everything from wicker-work and pottery to printing and sculpture. As yet I’ve not exhibited my work professionally, but this is something I intend to change in the coming year.

I don’t really have a process- I’m inspired by something in the world around me and I strive to recreate that idea in whatever form best suits it. For instance, when I see a wonderful landscape or view, I am inspired to paint it because to me that is the most appropriate medium for landscapes.

On a personal note I live and work in South Wales, but freelance work takes me all over Britain. I’m fuelled by tea and I’m an avid knitter.
